The communication from the Hungarian Pedagogues Association of Slovakia states that 3505 students were enrolled in Hungarian-speaking elementary schools during the enrolment period (April 2017) last year. In reality, however, 3798 students began their first year in Hungarian-speaking elementary schools on 15 September. According to the official enrolment data of 2017, 3451 children were sent to Hungarian-language primary schools by their parents. The number of students might still increase slightly, as parents who missed the enrolment deadline will fulfil their legal obligation in regard to enrolment at a later date at the request of educational authorities.

256 Hungarian-speaking elementary schools operated in Slovakia in the school year 2016-2017. 252 schools have opened their doors for the school year 2017-2018 this year. The number of Hungarian-language schools is likely to remain unchanged in the school year 2018-2019. (ma7.sk)
