Loránt Vincze, President of the FUEN (Federal Union of the European Nationalities) that had launched the Minority SafePack Initiative which seeks EU protection for the indigenous minorities, and József Berényi (Party of the Hungarian Community-SMK-MKP) who coordinated the gathering of signatures in Slovakia submitted the signatures collected in Slovakia to the Ministry of Interior earlier today. A total of 68,619 signatures were gathered in Slovakia.

Lóránt Vincze, after submitting the signatures, said: ‘The Hungarian community in south Slovakia is a strong community, and they have a strong voice that urges the European Union to put minority protection issues on the agenda.’

József Berényi, coordinator of the signature collection in Southern Slovakia, expressed delight that many more signatures were gathered than 50,000 signatures originally undertaken by the SMK-MKP. ‘I am pleased by the solidarity in Slovakia, which has led to this success’, he said, and conveyed the thanks of the organisers to all the people who signed the statements of support and all the organisations that gathered signatures.
