Given the results of the November 4 regional elections, the non-parliamentary Hungarian Community Party (SMK-MKP) should surely be taken into account in the next general elections in 2020, reads a statement of the SMK-MKP Republican Council adopted at a party's session on Saturday.

SMK-MKP press secretary Helena Fiala told TASR that the results of this year's regional elections have conveyed an important message from both political and social points of view, namely that SMK-MKP is a dominant political force in southern Slovakia. "In terms of number of mandates SMK-MKP ranked third among the political parties and this fact confirms it that SMK-MKP necessarily have to be taken into account in the next parliamentary elections," said the ethnic-Hungarian party at the session, thanking their voters for the support.

Regarding the country-wide politics, SMK-MKP's Republican Council stated that the party's top priority is to continue in its partnership with centre-right parties. "Besides that, the Republic Council will insist on the fact that our actions at the regional level in the future will be carried out in the interest of the inhabitants of southern Slovakia," reads the statement.
