The digital learning materials, called IKATIKA, are tested from October to December. The program is specifically intended to help develop the skills of ethnic Hungarian, Ruthenian and Roma pre-school children and pre-prep pupils. The Ministry of Education hopes that all minority school of the country will soon use the program. 11 topic areas have been translated so far. The bilingual program includes several exercises, tasks, worksheets and methodological proposals relating to the education and care of pre-school and pre-prep children in Slovak, Hungarian, Ruthenian and Roma. As the program is bilingual, minority schools can use it to teach the Slovak language.
Interactive tables could only be used with Slovak and Hungarian programs (the latter from Hungary) so far. However, the latter is not compatible with the state pedagogical program of Slovakia, it therefore remained a partial solution to the problem. The tables are very popular among children. ‘Practically speaking, they can immediately use these tables which make sessions much more enjoyable and varied. It opens the world for children,’ the pedagogue said. The schools have already received the software and its operating manual, and the training of teachers has also begun.
