The Hungarian Economists’ Association of Slovakia presented South Slovakia’s first regional economic development plan, the Plan of Gábor Baross (PGB) in May 2014 in Dunajská Streda. The main strategic goal of the Plan is to create a competitive environment of economic development in South Slovakia. The Baross Foundation will soon be established to achieve the goals set by the Plan.

The development plan includes the assessment of the situation and the SWOT analysis of 17 districts in South Slovakia, as well as the possible development path and take-off points of 28 subregions in the area of the districts; the latter ones are based on the specificities and traditions of the districts and sub-regions, and take future opportunities into account.

The Plan of Gábor Baross was created under the auspices of the Hungarian Economists’ Association of Slovakia, and more than 20 Slovakian and Hungarian institutions and experts participated in the development of the document. The task force led by Iván Farkas (SMK-MKP: Party of the Hungarian Community) completed the Plan in 2013.

According to Iván Farkas, the Baross Foundation that is to be established will support the achievement of the objectives in the Plan of Gábor Baross with significant funds. On the basis of the applications submitted, non-repayable grants and, later, repayable assistance of significant amount will be provided to small and medium-sized enterprises, farmers and industrialists in many areas of the economy.
